Semi-final community winners: etoile

by C:F Team on 13th April, 2010 at 9:15 AM CEST

Challenge:Future invited teams that were among the semi-finalist community winners, but didn't qualify into the finals, to answer a few questions about their team and their participation in the C:F competition. In the first interview of this series, we'd like to introduce team etoile, which participated in the IEDC challenge and will also have a team representative (Damla Aktan) at the C:F Summit.

Can you briefly introduce each of the members of your team?

"Burcu and Elif have completed their MA degrees in Marketing and Nihan has completed her MA degree in Management Scinece and Organization in Ege University, and the three are currently making PhD in Business Administarion in Dokuz Eylül University. Damla has completed her BA and MA degrees in International Relations and European Union Department in Izmir University of Economics, and currently making her second masters degree in Business Administration. She is also preparing for an integrated PhD exam in Business Administration Department, and still an active ballet dancer. All the team members likes art and social activities a lot."

Where did you hear about the C:F competition and why did you decide to participate?

"How it is said? It was "fate" :) Damla's one friend has told her that there was an announcement in the website of the university concerning an international student competition. A night while sitting in front of the window and chatting one of her friends, she just took a glance to the web page, and decided to inform one of her collegue Nihan in İzmir University (which she is currently working at) about the competition."

How was your team formed and how did you choose the name?

"Nihan also asked two of her collegues from PhD Class, and they decided to form three different teams with three different subjects. Damla proposed the "star" name, but as long as there are two other groups, they should find two more names meaning similar, and as long as "etoile" means "star" in French, with Damla's proposal, team members agreed upon the name.

What was the biggest challenge for your team when you were developing your idea in the semi-finals?

"In fact, the biggest challenge the team faced is to create the video as long as the computers locked nearly once per two minutes while preparing the video. Each time we had to restart the same process nearly 15 times and about 3 days !!! That was like a nightmare :) But we overcame the hardest point with the kind helps and millions of contacts with Maggie Peng :) and here we are :) Thanks a lot...

Will you be participating in the C:F competition again next year?

"Why not... It was so nice to be a part of such an organization."

What advice would you give to future teams?

"If you have a dream, just imagine and try it. You can not know what happens without once you start... Just take the lead, choose your music, make the entire choreograpy, and choose your way into the future."

Anything else you would like to say to the C:F community or your fans?

"Good luck and best of all wishes to everyone.. We wish all your days and nights shine with the lights of etoiles :)"
