Portraits of the coming storm

by C:F Team on 1st October, 2010 at 7:49 PM CEST

In our latest QC - your personal evidence of climate change, we called out for all the youth to speak up and illustrate the evidence of climate change that we face today. If you have not seen the thought-provoking pictures submitted by our members, check out the gallery here.

And now today, we are happy to announce the winner of this QC. But before we do that, please allow us to introduce our five youth judges who have participated in the QC. They are: Johanny Arilexis Perez Sierra, Nubi Kayode, Jatin Kataria, Dan Croitoru and Maggie Peng. We thank them for their time and careful consideration when picking the winner of this challenge.

And now without further ado, the winner of this QC is:

Long road in the dunes by Olga Kotelnikova

This photo of the famous "walking" trees was taken in Sandy(Peschanaya) Bay. In former times roots of these trees were deep inside the soil, but, nevertheless this trees are still alive and continue to grow.

Congratulations, Olga! Our judges have picked your solution as it is not only an evidence of climate change but also a demonstration of the living things on our world adapting in order to survive. Well done! As the prize, you will received a copy of The Storms of my Grandchildren signed by the C:F team. Please contact us to arrange the details.

Other honourable mentions include:

Melting giants by Aneeqa Tariq Sheikh

Our judges say: Small change in the melting of ice is creating uncontrollable disaster all across the country, and recent example is Pakistan. well executed by picture and comment.

Tropical storm ho!... again by Alejandro Guerra Millán

Our judges say: this picture of the storm is quite frightening and alarming. And sad part is that it happens all too often around the world.

EROSION and LANDSLIDES by Sreevas Sahasranamam

Our judges say: Perils like soil erosion and landslides are devastating and requires long term commitment to mitigate. Well said/captured, Sreevas.

We hope you have enjoyed this QC. Here is the video of the amazing competition entries. You can view it on our youtube channel too.
