Fighting youth unemployment in Izmir

by C:F Izmir Chapter on 22nd March, 2013 at 2:27 PM CEST

"Youth For Common Future" adı altında düzenlenen bu uluslararası AB projesinde CEEMAN ve IEDC Bled School of Management ortaklığıyla kurulmuş Slovenya merkezli Challenge:Future Non-Profit Organization ve Ege Genç İş Adamları Derneği (EGİAD) partner olmuştur. (19-20 January 2013)

This is what the starting paragraph of Challenge:Future Chapter Izmir invitation to students said. Within the framework of Youth in Action project "Creating Future with Creating Jobs", Challenge:Future together with CEEMAN and Aegean Foundation of Young Businessmen gathered more than 80 students from Turkey with one goal: to fight youth unemployment. Izmir University of Economics has proved to be a great host for such events. Bringing together creative speakers on one side and strongly active young students on the other, made this event a special learning experience for all.

Andreja Kodrin, President and Founder of Challenge:Future opened the event: "You stepped out of your comfort zone by using this weekend for a learning experience. That is why I would call you winners." Ali Cengiz Uzun, lecturer at Dokuz Eylul University suggested "throw away that glue from yourself. Grow fast, change fast. Smile." Mine Erbaykent Uysal, founder and CEO of Mikor company dealing with coaching and HR consultancy led a creative workshop on X and Y Generation. Through group work and discussions, participants came to interesting conclusions, understanding what Challenge:Future is and how they can apply with their ideas in the ongoing C:F Competitions 2013. Students got all needed information from Bistra and Damla.

A panel discussion additionally opened the minds of students, discussing maters related to youth unemployment in Turkey. The second day, started with some morning icebreaking games and Nadya Zhexembayeva's speech at TEDxLjubljana Inspired by Izmir Expo, Mustafa Tanyeri, professor at Dokuz Eylul University gave the guidelines for the following workshops. A group of judges will choose the best project and presentation, offering internships to the winning teams.

The Labor Department's work opportunities report for February, released March 8, was more optimistic than expected. More jobs were added than economists forecasted, and the unemployment rate decreased to the lowest level since 2008.
