Random act of Kindness means Sharing Happiness

by Rifat & C:F Team on 25th March, 2013 at 12:05 PM CEST

Sometime it seems easy to make people smile. A random act of kindness is something like sharing some happy moments. On 23rd February 2013, the C:F Bangladesh Chapter and EqualTo went to a slum in Rayerbazar, Dhaka where hundreds of families live in deprived conditions. In this dingy locality, there is a huge number of kids who are affected by vulnerable child labor, which is a violation of ILO’s act. To help and aid the little children here, few education centers are working with children and children are sent here to get basic ideas on importance of cleanliness, nutrition and also learn counting, basic alphabets etc.

We made our visit to such type of school in Rayerbazar and in a class we found 18 students all of whom were connected to child labor. What’s their reality? As many of them shared with us, they are many a times urged to contribute to the gross income of the family. What they have to deal with? Collect scrap from pile of garbage and selling it at very low prices. A 10 year old boy was saying that sometimes they need to walk a very long distances on foot, so they could gather good number of scraps likes plastic bottles or tins. They barely earn 200 taka per day, which is around 2.5$

We spend few hours with these kids, me along with one of my senior mates, Md. Abdullah. We kept on going a warm conversation with them, emphasizing how important for them is to be educated, and also kept the conversation going on morality and cleanliness. We had a fun time by doing quizzes and making paper toys with them. Aura of joy in their eyes and hours without thinking that they need to search for bottles and tins on the roadsides.

What really surprised us, was getting to know that all of them have big dreams, and that is the reason why they are attending the school; and they will keep on attending it!

In the end, we distributed paper pads, pencils, pens, erasers and sharpeners among the 18 of them. The inspiration for such activity came through the Challenge:Future’s Youth for Youth project from 2011. We are fully aware that these random acts of kindness are not to solve the huge problems these kids are faced with, illiteracy for instance; however small steps like this from youngsters worldwide will DO make this world a better and balanced place.

Remember that Ghandi’s saying? Everything you do in life may be considered insignificant, but it’s very important that you do it, because nobody else will! Believe and spread your positive energy as only YOU can, and it will come back to you... some day! Smiles from Bangladesh!

C:F Chapters and fans, when is the next Random Act of Kindness taking place? We are eager to hear all of your positive stories!
