Youth means adding Green on Earth

by C:F Chapter Network team on 25th April, 2013 at 11:58 AM CEST

Our generation lives in time when climate issues are constantly multiplying and it seems like there is no way out. Latest reports show that trash is accumulating everywhere even in Antarctica. Battles are not lost, as this week also we got to know that 19 years old invents a way to clean the ocean of plastic bottles. Yet, other challenges are in abundance. Today it is of huge ethic importance to take care of our home. It’s our only place. “There is no time any more for only charity, standalone NGOs or that something is fancy! It is the time when everybody must act, together and now!” comments Andreja Kodrin, founder and president of Challenge:Future.

Challenge:Future Chapter Network, once again acted united and altogether, synchronizing their energy and will to act now and here, as there is no other place and no other time. On 22 April 2013, local chapters around the globe celebrated Earth Day under the motto “Youth means adding Green on Earth.”

Here is a piece of what actually happened.

C:F Bangladesh team says: “It was rainy and windy day in Dhaka on 22nd April and C:F Bangladesh members Fahad, Jafrin and Imran thought it would be a great idea to add something green on such a grey day.The idea was to plant some plant saplings around homesteads. The effort was individual for each participant, but all of us shared a single view regarding deforestation in Bangladesh,” reports Rifat.

“I have started the day by planting a small cactus to symbolize the sustainability of youth vigor or to symbolize how youth can firmly foster the thought and act of sustainability".

“All these efforts again reflects on that C:F is the playground for neo leaders who are willing to take small steps in order to complete bigger goals,”concludes Rifat in the end.

Niloo Argi from C:F Iran also joined the celebration. She says: “Only two weeks before International Earth Day, we celebrated Nature Day based on traditional calendar which is mainly a 13-days-holiday to welcome spring. On the 13th day nothing is more appreciated than celebrating the beauty of Nature and Earth. We joined the International event, we raised green voice in the social networks by sharing posters, hugged trees as symbols, took photo and strengthened our promises to use less and be greener!”

From Iran we move to Pakistan!

“On Earth Day I planned to utilize a small area adjacent to my house, where my father has invested a lot of energy in making it green. In a time of nearly 10 years, it turned out to be a very green place with many types of flowers, fruits and other eye-pleasing leaves,” reports Hina Hazrat.”The Earth Day 2013 was celebrated in the same confine by gathering children, and few young people, who created amazing posters with wonderful messages and commitments related to Earth Day 2013. “Green on”, “Plant a Tree”, “Don’t Waste Water, It is Precious” were just part of the inspiring words of the children,” hina explains. “Earth is our first belonging, saving it is our first priority” Hina adds in the end.

India’s local representative Hitesh also added green on Earth.

"The earth is what we all have in common. So, love this planet & save it for our future generation as it is the only gift we can give to them. Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realize we cannot eat money,” Hitesh says.

From India to Skopje, Macedonia! The C:F Chapter Skopje activities are mainly concentrated on blogging and securing regional on-line visibility of C:F. “So far, so good. Our first sustainability article was posted on 10th February this year and that marked the beginning of our journey to secure a web space which will aim to serve as on-line hub for information on sustainability and positive green thinking. You can dive in deep into this creative space here in Macedonian and English: http://cfchapterskopjemk.wordpress.com/. More articles on sustainability will come this weekend,” writes Stefan.

And from Skopje, Macedonia we move back to Pakistan and Islamabad! “Dawn of 22nd April in Islamabad rose with a cherishing morning platter. Bright sunny morning garnished with lash green land, topped up with clear blue sky. Splendid Margalla hills are cheering the sparrows all over the city. Saying Good Morning Earth Day!

Earth Day 2013 was greeted with zeal and enthusiasm in the heart of Rawalpindi city when energetic team of C:F Islamabad - Rawalpindi chapter roamed in the urban center and spoke about the idea we were planning to execute today.

With 30 baby plants we have laid the foundation and have taken an oath to continue making our impressions harder & stronger. Right outside the Ayub National Park there are now 30 new plants,” writes Jawad Muhammad Nazir.

Thank you all for joining this global youth celebration and sending your photos and stories right after. For all the rest, keep us posted. More stories on Earth Day are yet to be featured.

So many smiling faces :) There is nothing more beautiful and powerful than showing our care and love together - at the same time - and with the same goal. Earth knows we care. I'm sure!

I am so happy to see that people on Earth are united this way to do something for Earth. Alone this is a sign that there is still hope until the last creature on Earth disappears.

A big congratulations to all the Chapters actively took part and thanks a lot! Earth is a bit a better place now just because of your actions ;)
