Take a walk! Save the planet!

Pollution is everywhere, it's in the air we breathe, in the water we drink, in the sights we see and in the sounds we hear.

We are all scared for our health, for our planet and for what we will be leaving for the next generations. We are all wondering about the impact global warming, climate change, oil reserves and renewable energies will have on our lives. But in terms of action what are we really doing to help put things back in order or at least stop things from getting worse?

Even though we all know and see the negative impact our lifestyles have on the environment, we still can't bring ourselves to let go of the luxuries and sacrifice small pleasures for the well being of our Home.

Take cars for example, we all enjoy a nice ride in a good smelling, air-conditioned, shiny car, putting on the music we like and singing along to our favorite songs. Sure! it is a nice concept, not having to wait for the bus to arrive, or deal with other passengers during rush hours. But have you seen the state of our cities lately? big grey clouds, suffocating smells, unbearable traffic-jams, and the non-ending noise of honks all around.

According to a report from Ward's Auto, the global number of cars exceeded 1.015 billion in 2010[1], and the OECD's International Transport Forum[2] predicts that the number of cars worldwide would reach 2.5 billion by 2050. Do you think that we can handle that?

We are killing our planet one gallon of oil at a time, and if we wait for our leaders and governments to take action, then we will be waiting a long while.

Gandhi said "You must be the change you wish to see in the world"[3]. You can be that change;

• Don't use your car everyday

• Take public transportation from time to time

• Take your bike to school or work if you can

• It's spring take long walks and enjoy the weather

• Spread the word and get your family and friends to do the same

A wise man once said "Do your little bit of good where you are; it's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world."[4]

Our actions matter, even the smallest ones and we would be fools not to pay attention to the impact we have on our surroundings. So let's all take the first step of a long walk that just may save the planet.
