Pakistan Street workout Association’s Launch

by SHAHZAMAN KHUHRO on 25th November, 2013 at 12:24 PM CEST

It all started when Mr. Maris Slezins (Chairman of World street workout association) met me in Challenge Future’s annual conference in bled, we became good friends and soon started sharing our experiences and future plans. We finally decided to open up a daughter organization of World street workout federation since Pakistan is facing similar problems as Latvia was a few years back hence we share similar demographics and this daughter organization will serve the purpose of solving few of the youth related issues. And I decided to do it with the help of my Friend from Pakistan Mr. Fakhar Bokhari already a member of CF community.

After all the necessary permissions from Maris and completion of necessary paper work we have finally applied for registration of our association as an official NGO as per constitution of Pakistan under the NGO law 1868.

Launch took place on Monday 11th November at IoBM sports complex Karachi. An event was planned by our team which consists of me (Shahzaman Khuhro) as Chairman of the association, Fakhar Bokhari “Secretary-General” , Mansoor Kalwar “ Joint Secretary”  and Sarmast Bilawal Khuhro “Finance –Secretary”. Other were our support team Mr. Qayum Shah, Ahmed, Saira, Beenish, Aisha and Mahjabeen.

The event was conducted as follows:

The event started at 9 am sharp with an informative session by Mr. Fakhar Bokhari, Mansoor and Sarmast. Here they briefed the audience about the details of the event and a short introduction about World street workout federation and Pakistan street workout association.

  1. A cricket tournament was organized with 4 matches of 5 overs each and winners were given certificates and trophies at the end by our Sponsors.
  2. In the lunch break I gave a brief insight of our Association, background, future goals and upcoming projects which were enthusiastically listened and appreciated by audience.
  3. We talked about the importance of street workout and sports in general and highlighted the importance of such activities and their impact on health of the society and how it can motivate the youth to utilize their energies and divert their minds from wrongdoings such drug peddling, street crime, gambling.
  4. We highlighted the importance of education and sports. We also talked about our upcoming projects such as a health consortium of senior citizens where we will conduct exercise sessions every morning in the local parks and make teams and competitions will be held weekly to engage the senior citizens and their health can be monitored this way.
  5. Our marathons every month where we will engage medical practitioners who will give free medical advice and pharmaceutical sponsors will provide free medical supplies to whoever attends those marathons.
  6. We will also conduct street workout sessions for kids who are homeless and winners will be given performance based scholarships and older youth will also be provided with vocational training so they can start their business with whatever potential they have.

Membership forms were available for the people to become part of the association, survey and questionnaires were distributed amongst the audience to know their opinion. Those forms are screened by our team and all the suggestions and some wonderful future plans were shared in those. All of the information has been noted and will be used in future by the association. 200 membership forms were given and 50 have been shortlisted and will be called for an interview and 25 will be given membership for 3 months and then again members will be evaluated for the next tenure.

Special thanks:

I will personally thank Mr. Fakhar bokhari for taking care of all the ground work and arrangements, designing of banners, brochures and other promotion material. Mansoor ahmed for permissions and Sarmast Bilawal for arranging sponsors to meet our initial cost for the event and also supervising our media team and making such a wonderful video for our launch. I will also thanks Mr. Qayum Shah, Beenish, Ayesha for giving us back end support and standing with us for their support. And the IoBM faculty and sports head for giving us the space and permission for the event and execution of the event.
