Dentist On The Road!

by Dhinintya Hyta Narissi Latief on 1st October, 2014 at 1:59 PM CEST

Have you ever heard about dentist on the road? Dentist on the road actually is a special program from my faculty in order to put dental health system in the first priority of people mindset. Here, me and my friends on every weekend will go to the place where our skills as young dentists are going to be implemented. We switched off our social media, and just getaway to help them.

In September, located in Kota Baru, Sleman, Yogyakarta, my team was doing dental screening and education for villagers. Dental screening was aimed to find dental cases and beyond so that we can treat people in needs with the proper treatment. Villagers welcomed us with the excitement and warm greetings. It feels so nice to see happy smile and beautiful eagerness from their faces.

Dental education for children is also interesting part of the program that I really love. We were dancing, singing, smiling, and laughing all day long with children. We educate them through joy and happiness so they understand the importance of dental health in their life. Personally, I feel more engaged with the children by this dental education. Their faces showed big curiosity about what is going on their teeth if they are not treating them well, how to do the proper brushing teeth, and so on.

Days ago, we had done the exact same thing in Kalibawang, Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta. The only differences are the location is far away, deep down in the mountainers area, and people lived here are low educated so they need our help so much. They contact us to come here and do the program.

We need to do some kind of socialization to get closer to villagers. After hours of socialization and education, they accepted us and finally dental screening was done. Next treatment for their cases will be solved in Yogyakarta, at our dental hospital, RSGM Prof. Soedomo.

Next weekend getaway, we are on our way to help people in dental needs in Kali Code, Sleman, Yogyakarta. Wish us luck to improve people health here back in Yogyakarta, Indonesia! Happy smile, beautiful health!

If you were on the road to help, where would you go and whom would you help?
