Vertical Garden - CF Event in Berovo, Macedonia

by Viktorija Spendzarska on 4th September, 2015 at 1:42 PM CEST

Viktorija Spendzarska was the first CF 100$ challenge winner in 2015. She spent the sum to ignite her local community with the 'Vertical Garden' event which embraced architectural attempt for reuse of industrial materials and their creative introduction into our everyday + educational component on the themes of organic gardening, healthy habits/ lifestyles. Here is what Viktorija shares for her initiative:

When we speak about human health nowadays, we often mention words like natural, organic, GMO and the importance of green and peaceful surroundings. When we talk about the health of Mother Earth we talk about sustainability, recycling and reusing of materials. But how much we know about the real meanings of those words and the way they affect us and the environment.

These are some of the reasons why I wanted to organize the project “Vertical Garden”, to create a little piece of green heaven where people can gather some more information about the topics of organic gardening and healthy lifestyle and at the same time experience the benefits of green and flowery surroundings and get hands-on experience with turning everyday trash into a recycled crafts and decorations for their homes.

The project was implemented during the 3 days long Ethno Square Festival at the end of August, in Berovo and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Mayor Dragi Nadzinski and the Head of Department of Public Works at Municipality of Berovo Marin Demirovski for their encouragement and support and also to all local companies that took part in this project and helped in the process of realization.

Both of the lectures “Introduction to Organic Gardening” by Elena Predarska and “Healthy Habits for Healthy Lifestyle” by Goce Mamucevski were a huge success and I would like to thank the speakers but also the participants for their active involvement in the debates. With some simple tips and tricks like drinking a glass of water on empty stomach in the morning we can improve our health and wellbeing.

"Introduction to organic gardening" - Elena Predarska

"Healthy Habits for Healthy Lifestyle" - Goce Mamuceski

I would also like to thank all of the people who helped in the preparation and realization of this idea, specially the architects Elena Asprovska and Daniela Chochovska who did an amazing job with the garden and triggered a positive change in our local community by pursuing this architectural attempt to create a affordable structure by reusing the industrial materials and their creative introduction in everyday life. It was quite a challenge, but as some say, “A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor”.

We are pleased that the project triggered mixed reactions because that is confirmation that we reached the target group, the citizens and provoke them to react, that makes this project a success.

I hope there will be many more similar projects in our community because it’s up to us the youth to invent tomorrow and impact today.

The team: Daniela Chochovska, Elena Asprovska, Viktorija Spendzarska
